There is a great variety of prominent people’s names on the map of the Caucasus: they are given to the peaks and passes. But one won’t come across the name of the Russian scientist of genius - Mikhail Lomonosov’s. The situation is going to be improved by Arkhangelsk journalists...
On the 5th of August a group of those who want to immortalize the name of the great countryman are leaving Arkhangelsk for the Caucasus under the auspices of “The Editor Club”. They will give up their pens and become mountain climbers for a while. There are editors and journalists of the regional and district periodicals in the group of 11 travellers; it also includes Alexander Krivorotov, the head of the press and media agency of the regional government, and Dmitry Yurkov, a deputy of the Arkhangelsk Municipal Council, a student of local history. The ascent is timed to Mikhail Lomonosov’s 300th anniversary that will be celebrated next year. According to Alex Vasin, the director of the branch office of the broadcasting company “Pomorye”, the venture is to be a highlight of the forthcoming anniversary’s festivities.
Lomonosov’s name will be given to one of the peaks of the mountain Bull Head in a cascade adjacent to the Elbrus; its height is about 4 thousand meters. The corresponding decree has been signed by the President of Kabardino-Balkaria. The flag of the Arkhangelsk region and a commemorative plate will be placed on the peak. It is now being manufactured on an enterprise of Severodvinsk. The participants of the first ascent hope that the students of the universities bearing the name of the scientist of genius, including MSU, will follow in their footsteps towards the peak of Lomonosov.
At first the participants of the expedition to the Caucasus will be preparing for the ascent, will be training and adapting to the lack of oxygen. The base camp will be located at an altitude of 1, 583 m. Only one of the participants has mountaineering experience, two of them are the fans of mountains; for the rest it will be their first meeting with mountains. There are a few routes to climb the chosen peak, including the one for the first-class professionals. The Arkhangelsk expedition will choose the optimal route in accordance with their mountaineering qualifications.

Вершине Приэльбрусья дадут имя Ломоносова
На карте Кавказских гор в названиях вершин, перевалов и пиков — множество имен выдающихся людей. Но не встретишь на ней имя гениальнейшего ученого России Михаила Ломоносова. Ситуацию планируют исправить архангельские журналисты.
5 августа из Архангельска на Кавказ под эгидой «Клуба редакторов» отправляется группа желающих увековечить имя великого земляка, бросив перо и став альпинистами. Среди 11 человек - редакторы и журналисты областных и районных изданий, а также руководитель агентства по печати и СМИ областного правительства Александр Криворотов и депутат Архангельского городского Совета, краевед Дмитрий Юрков. Восхождение приурочили к 300-летию Михаила Ломоносова, которое будет отмечаться в следующем году. Как сказал директор филиала ВГТРК «Поморье» Алексей Васин, эта акция должна стать изюминкой программы празднования предстоящего юбилея.
Именем Ломоносова будет назван один из пиков горы Голова Быка в каскаде, прилегающем к Эльбрусу высотой около 4 тысяч метров. Соответствующий указ, поддержав инициативу, подписал президент Кабардино-Балкарской республики. На пике планируется установить штандарт Архангельской области, а также памятную табличку. Работа над ней сейчас завершается на одном из предприятий Северодвинска. Участники первого восхождения надеются, что по тропе на пик Ломоносова вслед за ними пойдут студенты вузов, носящих имя гениального ученого, в том числе МГУ.
Первое время участники экспедиции на Кавказ проведут в подготовке к восхождению, будут тренироваться и адаптироваться к условиям нехватки кислорода. Базовый лагерь расположится на высоте 1583 метра. Альпинистский опыт есть только у одного из участников, двое - поклонники гор, для остальных это будет первая встреча с горами. Для восхождения на избранный пик есть несколько маршрутов, в том числе для супер-профессионалов. Архангельской экспедиции будет избран оптимальный с учетом их альпинисткой подготовки.
